The experiences of short term stay in Tsukuba University Hospital
On 18 January afternoon, the fight 0750 of Japan airlines brought us from Ho Chi Minh City to Narita airport. It took one hour waiting for the bus, then we came to Tsukuba center bus station at 6:50 pm. When I got out of the bus an icy-cold wrapped up me. I saw Prof. Akiyama and his secretary stayed there ready. They picked us up, came back the dormitory and guided us how to use the facilities. And they did not forget standing us a good dinner.
Monday 19 January is the first day in Tsukuba University Hospital. We went there by car so I felt it’s warmer. We came and greeted OPIMA (Office for the Promotion of International Medical Affairs). We had visit courtesy to TUH director Prof. Akira Matsumura - Director of TUH. He was my former teacher in TOT training in 2008 at my hospital. I also met Kazakhstan doctors there.
This is the third time I come Japan, In 2002 I went Tsukuba University but not got into TUH. The hospital now is very clean and nice. It is modern building in a large campus. I liked the fresh air and shiny sunshine in the morning. I was very sorry that no have any cherry blossom on the trees I had peace of mind because of it was rather familiar and everyone is kindly and thoughtful of others.
Most of time I worked with Nursing department and head nurses. I was warmly welcomed. I felt very comfortable and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I had joined many nursing activities such as: Morning meeting, Recruitment interview for new nurse, TOT for nurse instructors, Instruction- assignment and evaluate nursing student in clinical setting, Consulting of Palliative care center, Discharged plan conference, Visiting Clinical departments and Nursing Faculty. Through these opportunities I got lots of information about: hospital, Nursing management activities, Nursing education system in Japan, Educational system for nurses in TUH, Nursing ladder, Leadership Training for Nursing students , SBARs concepts, How a new nurse was be trained and work to integrate into working environment and Requirements to become an Advanced Practitioner Nurse.
I was also interested in compound drugs boxes in each clinical department. Transport system in hospital, and facilities in examination room. It is safe and useful for patient as well as for health staff.
In some remain days, my experience and feeling was Tsukuba University and Tsukuba University hospital is the good environment to study and research. After this short term studying at Tsukuba I realized that I need to improve the nursing system in my hospital, especially for personal resource of Cho Ray hospital number II. In the future, with the cooperation between the Tsukuba University Hospital and Cho Ray Hospital, I would like the plan will be realistic. Firstly, to reinforce relationship between 2 Nursing Departments and make plan for: Team work short term training (physician, nurse, technician…), Training of CNs, CNSs, APNs, Collaborate Nursing research, and participation Specialized nursing Workshop, (Ex: palliative care, stoma care), Hospital Scientific conference on nursing field in ChoRay hospital. Secondly, to break down language barrier by asking my nurses study Japanese and English languages
I was deeply impressed by Tsukuba university hospital warmly welcome, especially Prof. Akiyama and OPIMA ’s kindness
Finally, I would like to thank Prof. Akira Matsumura-Director of TUH, Prof Akiyama, Ms. Yoko Shirakawa, OPIMA and Nursing department gave me a chance to study and shared experiences in nursing management.
I also thank Dr Uyen Chi and Ms Naomi Yoshiwara helping me on Japanese words
Although outside is very cold and windy, but I still feel warmly because of your thoughtfulness and hospitality.
